Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts to make it with mainstream artists were not successful. Perry was signed to two labels and was later dropped from them prior to any recordings had been released. In 2007 however Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted little attention due to its jolly flippant title track. "I Loved a Girl a straightforward ode to sexual curiosity, backed by a hardedged electro pop beat caused her to make a bigger splash within a couple of months. The track quickly caused controversy, as critics criticized it for promoting same-sex relations while others claimed that the explicit scenario it depicted catered to male fantasies of sexuality in females. I Kissed a Girl became the number one hit in the world because of its mix of sexual enticement and a refined melodic tune. It also helped her sell a number of albums, including the album One of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with the second single that became a hit, also became a huge hit. The album that Perry composed herself sold more than three million copies.
